Gold Trading Bot (XAU/USD)
A Python-based algorithmic trading bot for XAU/USD featuring a paywalled web monitoring interface and technical indicator-based predictions.
1. Overview
This project is an algorithmic trading system specifically designed for the gold market (XAU/USD). It includes both the core trading engine to analyze market indicators and a web-based monitoring platform for end-users.
2. Engineering Highlights
- Architecture: Python-based algorithmic trading engine with a real-time MetaTrader 5 (MT5 Bridge) event loop, coupled with a web-based monitoring interface and subscription paywall.
- State & Data Flow: Ingests and processes time-series market data (OHLC / Ticks), calculating quantitative indicators (EMA, trend filters) alongside real-time risk parameters (Drawdown, Exposure, Position Sizing) to generate automated buy/sell signals.
- Key Challenge & Solution: High-reliability order execution and margin monitoring; solved by developing an automated Discord Webhook alerting pipeline with separated channels for transaction execution logs, margin threshold warnings, and daily PnL performance digests.
3. Context & Problem
This project was developed before AI-driven coding and trading tools became widespread. Building the prediction models required a deep, manual understanding of technical financial indicators (such as EMA - Exponential Moving Average) and market mechanics to effectively predict XAU/USD price action.
4. Goal
The primary objectives were twofold:
- To develop a trading algorithm targeting a consistent 5-10% annual profit.
- To build a monetizable, subscription-based web interface where external users could pay to access and utilize the trading signals and bot.
5. My Role & What I Built
- Trading Algorithm: Programmed the core logic in Python, implementing custom indicator formulas (like EMA) to generate buy and sell prediction signals.
- Web Platform: Developed the web monitoring interface, incorporating a payment structure that allowed external users to pay for access to the system.
6. What I Learned
One of the most valuable takeaways came from the project management side. The advising professor required weekly progress updates to discuss our workflows and thought processes. Post-graduation, I realized how critical this was: it completely shaped my ability to communicate technical concepts clearly. Pitching the entire project lifecycle—from Planning → Proof of Concept (PoC) → Demo → Production—to stakeholders (the professor) proved to be an essential professional skill that I rely on today.
